HOKKAIDO

TAISETSU SNOW AREA

WE RECOMMEND AT LEAST STAYING 6 DAYS TO ENJOY SKIING AT THE TAISETSU AREA.

Asahikawa is the central city in Taisetsu area with six nearby skiing sites, all of them a day trip away from the city. Each one has its own unique character, so visitors can enjoy different experiences without travelling far. Until a few years ago, skiers and snowboarders from abroad visited mainly Sapporo and Niseko, but they have now begun to visit the Taisetsu area as well. Many people have noticed the accessibility of the location and its varied attractions.

◼️KAMUI SKI LINKS
The entrance of Taisetsu area.

Kamui Ski Links is the gateway to the Taisetsu area. The snow brought from the Sea of Japan is first dropped here. Therefore, the quality of snow is one of the best in the world, and in some cases, it is better than Asahidake. It takes approximately 30 minutes to get there by car from Asahikawa. Visitors can even make a day trip from Furano and Sapporo. Kamui Ski Links has 25 ski slopes, attracting many visitors. It includes a 4000-meter slope for beginners, a backcountry run, and many others. It only takes 8 minutes to go to the mountaintop by the high-speed gondola lift.

Enjoy a spectacular view of the Sounkyo valley.

Mt. Kurodake,1,984 meters high, has a light powder snow that attracts many visitors. However, it also commands a spectacular panoramic view from the northern slopes. To get to the mountaintop, one takes a ropeway, then a chairlift to the 7th station, and then walks to the summit. An astonishing view awaits visitors at the top. The local people usually start climbing the mountain in November, the early winter season. The summit is located above the edge of the forest, and a view of the mountain range in Taisetsu area is truly breath taking. Mt. Kurodake is approximately an hour and a half from Asahikawa airport, and 2 hours and a half from Sapporo if visitors take a freeway. A hot spring town called “Sounkyo Onsen” at the foot of the mountain is also famous, and the high-quality natural hot spring spa will warm visitors up.
